This video explains the first of 5 steps in my routine for building spoken language proficiency in the target larget language community.
I use the word “linguist” in this video, in the sense of the Oxford English Dictionary’s first definition: “a person skilled in foreign languages”. The second definition in the Oxford English Dictionary is: “a person who studies linguistics”. I am not a linguist in the second sense.
Do you speak another language “fluently”? …and what does that mean?
The word “fluent” is usually used quite loosely when describing language skill. In this video, I explain what I, and some other language teachers mean, when we use this term.
And yes, I noticed mistakes in this video, but I thought it was best to leave them in. I have not finished learning any languages yet, including English.
